Data Guide Brexit

Numbers of people in employment are to the nearest hundred thousand. Numbers for each year were taken in the first quarter of each year in question. 

This chart shows the number of people who have made applications under the Home Office's settlement scheme for EU nationals in the UK. The testing phase refers to the the period between 28 August 2018 and 29 March 2019. Applications made in this period may have been concluded in a later period. Figures are rounded to the nearest 100 and are provisional and subject to change.

These figures have been taken from the PSNI's website which provides monthly updates on these statistics. 

According to the UK Government it has provided the devolved administrations with over £304m since 2017 to prepare for Brexit. The Scottish Government received the largest share of the funding (45.4%), the Northern Ireland Civil Service (in the absence of a Northern Ireland Executive following Stormont's collapse in 2017) received 28.2% and the Welsh Government 26.4%. The £85.9m of Brexit funding provided to the Northern Ireland Civil Service breaks down as £51.4m core funding, £16.5m for policing and £18m for other pressures not faced in other parts of the UK.

These are sited on the N01 north of Junction 20 Jonesborough, Ravensdale, Co Louth; On the N01 between Junction 19 Ravensdale and Junction 20 Jonesborough (Northbound); On the N53 between NI border and Castleblaney, Drumgoose, Co Monaghan; On the N02 between Castleblaney and Monaghan Town, Clontibert, Co Monaghan; On the N12 Armagh Road between N02 and R213; On the N02 between NI border and Emyvale, Mullinderg, Co Monaghan; On the N54 between Smithborough and Clones, Stranagarvey, Co Monaghan; On the N54 between Butlers Bridge and Clones, Clonoony, Co Monaghan; On the N03 between Belturbet and George Mitchell Bridge at NI border, Belturbet, Co Cavan; On the N87 between Ballyconnel and NI border, north of Swanlinbar, Co Cavan; On the N16 between Enniskillen and Sligo, McNean Court, Co Sligo; On the N03 between Belleek and Ballyshannon, Templenew, Co Donegal; On the N15 Lifford to Castlefinn, Inchenagh, Co Donegal;  On the N14 between Lifford and Letterkenny, Drumbuoy, Co Donegal; and on the N13 between Bridgend and Burnfoot, Co Donegal. As this is a subset of border crossings it does not provide full coverage of all vehicle border crossings. Due to the location of the traffic counters it is possible that vehicles captured do not cross the Ireland/Northern Ireland border.   

This chart created by The Detail provides an analysis of Northern Ireland (NI) trade in goods with Ireland, the rest of Europe and the rest of world in 2018. It shows the value of goods imported to NI from the three regions and the value of goods exported from NI to the same three regions.

This chart - and the chart A decade of milk production: Northern Ireland - were created by The Detail to show raw milk prices (yearly average) and production from 2009 to 2018. The Northern Ireland government uses the information as evidence for assessing milk production and pricing. The data is also used by government when considering whether to lobby the EU Commission for the application of private storage aid or intervention for dairy products as provided by policy instruments within the Common Agricultural Policy (CAP). The data is collected monthly from a survey of raw milk purchasers operating in Northern Ireland. It relates to the value (pence per litre) of raw milk purchased from Northern Ireland farms.

This chart - and the chart A decade of raw milk prices: Northern Ireland - were created by The Detail to show raw milk production and prices from 2009 to  2018. The Northern Ireland government uses the information as evidence for assessing milk production and pricing. The data is also used by government when considering whether to lobby the EU Commission for the application of private storage aid or intervention for dairy products as provided by policy instruments within the Common Agricultural Policy (CAP). The data is collected monthly from a survey of raw milk purchasers operating in Northern Ireland. The data relates to the volume (million litres) of raw milk produced annually on Northern Ireland farms.

This graph shows the number of British passport applications from residents in Northern Ireland (NI) and the Republic of Ireland (ROI) since 2015. It shows a fall in British passport applications since the UK's Brexit referendum in 2016 – a 13% fall in applications from Northern Ireland and a 16% fall in applications from the Republic of Ireland. 

This graph shows the number of Irish passport applications from residents in Northern Ireland (NI) and from Great Britain (GB) since 2012. It shows a rise in Irish passport applications since the UK's Brexit referendum in 2016. Provisional figures for 2018 further show a doubling in application numbers from both NI (106% increase) and GB residents (116% increase) since 2012.

This chart shows the number of emergency incidents in the Republic of Ireland and Northern Ireland which required paramedics to cross the NI/ROI border to provide additional support. The data is from October 2015 - when ambulance data in the Republic was first collated in electronic format on a centralised database - to March 2018. The Northern Ireland Ambulance Service attended 221 cross-border emergency calls in the Republic while their counterparts in the National Ambulance Service responded to 132 incidents in Northern Ireland during the timeframe. This chart shows the number of pupils resident in the Republic of Ireland who attend primary and post-primary schools in Northern Ireland. It also portrays the number of primary and post-primary pupils with an address in Northern Ireland attending schools in the Republic.

This chart shows the number of times paramedics from Northern Ireland crossed the border to provide additional support at emergency incidents in the Republic of Ireland between October 2015 and March 2018. The Northern Ireland Ambulance Service attended 221 cross-border emergency incidents during that timeframe - the majority in Donegal.
